As children explore their units of inquiry, they will develop the following skills which they are expected to have at the end of the year.
Language · Use more complex sentences to express ideas · Follow directions with more than two steps · Ask and answer complex questions to further own understanding · Engage in elaborate and sustained role play · Seek information in books; see self as reader · Begin to make letter-sound connections · Use letters that represent sounds in writing words Math and Science · Observe attentively and seek relevant information · Work on task over time · Sort objects into groups/subgroups and can state reason · Use measurement words and some standard measurement tools · Create complex patterns of own design or by copying · Identify and use numbers 0-15 to the objects counted Physical · Move with direction and refined coordination · Walk forward easily and backward with effort, along a wide beam · Climb and play easily on ramps, stairs, ladders, or slides · Ride with speed and control · Create recognizable objects using clay, cutting paper , etc. · Copy and draw simple shapes, letters, and words including name Personal and Social · Increasingly manage own feelings · Follow and understand the purpose of classroom procedures · Share and defend the rights of others to a turn · Engage in a process of negotiation to reach a compromise · Understand the importance of self-help skills and their role in healthy living · Begin to take responsibility for care of the classroom environment. |
